I am very excited to share some breaking news with you. I have just learned from one of my best friends (who happens to work for CBS) that Oprah is doing a show on Vegansim next week!!! I know, how awesome is that?!

The episode will air Tuesday, February 2, 2011 and involves Oprah and 378 of her staffers going vegan for a week. The episode will demonstrate their transition to a vegan lifestyle as they take Oprah’s Vegan Challenge. It will also show inside meat factories including a look inside a beef processing plant. Kathy Freston and Michael Pollan will stop by to explain what’s really in the food many people are eating.

Kathy Freston is a New York Times best-selling author. Her books promote a body, mind & spirit to health and well being. Her lasted book, Veganist, promotes a movement toward a more plant-based diet. She has also written several articles on veganism. Micheal Pollan is the award-winning author of In Defense of Food, and The Omnivore’s Dilemma.

Oprah goes Vegan. Sounds great right? This is huge for the vegan world. It’s Oprah after all; she has the Midas touch. This isn’t the first time Oprah has gone vegan. In 2008 Oprah went vegan for 22 days and document it on her blog. Then in January 2010 Oprah had Alicia Silverstone as a guest. They discussed the benefits of a vegan lifestyle, and offered viewers a vegan grocery list.

I am unsure if Oprah is still a vegan or if this episode marks a new beginning to her vegan lifestyle. Either way it is sure to be a great episode. I am very excited to learn about the experiences of these awesome employees as they take Oprah’s Vegan Challenge.

I can hardly wait!
